Fashion within the work environment can often times be a difficult subject to tackle, for both men and women. Be it that each gender may struggle with its own fashion confused demons, never the less they exist and figuring out what the best solution can be sometimes is an even more difficult feat. What we wear clearly is a representation of who we are as people, as noted by Kim Zoller at Image Dynamics, 55% of another person's perception of you is based on how you look, at least much of the corporate world views fashion this way. In which case when you dress for work in the morning you are not only simply covering up your body as is socially expected, you are enrobing yourself with the image and perception you want others to have of you, suddenly getting dressed in the morning might seem a little more stressful. There are a few very simple tips however that can assist and make this in fact the easiest part of your day.
If you think about it most aspects of fashion in the work world are unified for both genders. Wearing a solid colored suit for example is always a sure bet, especially in an interview setting. A well coordinated blouse or dress shirt is an excellent compliment to a strong well tailored suit; for women, tan or black hosiery is preferred; for men, a tie that compliments the suit and shirt well is an excellent choice. (Tip: When choosing a tie keep in mind your industry, is it too loud or bold, or will your setting appreciate a bit of flare? This is where your own judgment is necessary.) Hair for both genders should also be neat and professional. The bottom line is you want to look as though you woke up and cared enough to make the effort, not just rolled out of bed and didn’t have time for a comb. Perfume and colognes should be kept to a minimum, keeping in mind many people today even have allergies and are sensitive to such elements. Jewelry for men should be minimal, a nice watch and possibly ring are perfectly acceptable. For women jewelry should also be kept minimal however accessorizing for women is common practice and knowing when you have added the right amount of accessories to your outfit is key.

Each work space is unique, and it is up to you to research, observe, and get a feel for what is acceptable in that particular setting. Most companies prefer a clean and polished look and respect personal style within range, keeping in mind the five inch Mohawk might be better sported on your off time. At the end of the day your image is only one element that factors into who you are as a contribution to a company; if you tune in and pay close attention this can be one element you never have to worry about. Another excellent tip is self assurance and confidence is always the best accessory to any ensemble.
