When most of us here the word "Green", we think of care for the environment, or recycling, right? Well that is only part of its description that we are referring to in this article. "Green Jobs" are jobs that are considered to be green-collar positions that help protect ecosystems and bio-diversity, reduce energy, materials and water consumption through high efficiency strategies.

These jobs can also involve de-carbonizing the economy and minimizing the forms of waste and pollution- basically, to sum it all up, it is a job that helps preserve the environment in its natural state. All around the world, the introduction of green jobs has sprung up different opinions. There are many companies in Canada and the US that do support improving the environment, and as a result have a growing green collar work sector within their company. Some companies are currently expanding in this sector: Canon USA, Ford, Proctor & Gamble, Coca-Cola and Verizon.

These companies are working on existing and new products that can be better accepted in a green context. These companies want to stay competitive with the change in the environment, and they continue to invest in “Green”. A great way to discover new “Green products”, by these companies and many others, is to simply run a Google search. Companies such as Solaria are concentrating on the sun's energy with mirrors on a small area of panels. These are often referred to as solar panels. Solaria is working on improving the existing solar technology to make it more affordable and efficient. Another solar strategy being developed by technology startups are companies such as Flisom and Powerfilm. They produce flexible thin-films that can coat a surface to produce electricity. Others are developing utility-scale solar power systems that heat water or oil to generate electricity.

What has been estimated is that the cost of electricity produced by solar panels will drop to about 9 cents per kilowatt-hour in the next ten years, low enough to compete with natural gas or coal. Producers are ramping up production, financing is improving, and costs will fall as production continues to increase.

Solar companies are already running into a shortage of trained, qualified people. The ideal worker has a strong background in construction and electrical skills, with certified training specific to solar systems. Many Solar -based companies would encourage their workers through specified training, and offer to compensate and financially assist in obtaining their certification by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). Further credentials and skilled trades can be obtained through Community Colleges and Universities and or Vocational Technical Institutions. For example: At "Lakes College" in Iowa, US, there is the Wind Energy Program, which is a specialization program in Environmental Science. In Toronto, Ontario, at Schools such as "Windsor" University, and "University of Toronto", that offer programs that prepare candidates to work in the Green Collar Sector .Eco-entrepreneurs can create substantial training programs that provide the solar industry with the skilled workers according to the job fulfillment requirement.

Eco-entrepreneurs should look for opportunities to conjoin efforts with solar companies that want to outsource their training to focus on what they do best, putting in solar system.

Though the market of Green jobs is booming all around the world, so is the pollution and global climate change. Climate change is causing green jobs to be at a greater risk of dying down. One way Solar is growing rapidly, solar panels are still found on only a handful of homes, a sense of urgency needs to be created of this importance to all home owners. There is a big opportunity for solar still waiting to be realized by a large volume. Success will be measured when every one of our homes generates its own electricity. In creating the technologies of tomorrow, there are plenty of other opportunities for solar today. As production of solar power continues to grow and mature, it is becoming increasingly competitive with electricity from other sources.

The term LEED is synonymous within the construction industry. LEED is the acronym for Leaders in environment and
energy design. LEED is paving the way for building green. It is based on a scoring system. The designer/builder attains points for every item or system that is used in the design and build of the project that is environmentally friendly. The major areas of concentration are site selection, energy and the atmosphere, materials and resources, water efficiency and indoor air quality. All of these areas have become a major concern for the built environment, as the environment is being neglected. LEED certification is bringing on a big change to the built environment and is being sought after, by building owners, more and more.

All new government buildings are being built with the intension to attain LEED certification. These LEED buildings use more efficient HVAC systems, materials that are recyclable, and energy components that are better for the environment. Other important aspects of LEED include the use of as much daylight as possible, and using the least amount of potable water in the building and plumbing. The LEED certification institute provides formal education for those that are interested in attaining their certification.
