Our Client, UpToDate is a subscription-based medical information company, marketing to physicians worldwide, with a ten-year track record of rapid growth. The service is available to individual subscribers online, on CD-ROM and Pocket PC, and online to hospitals and academic institutions.
With subscribers in more than 115 countries UpToDate now wants to expand its hospitals and institutions business into the Middle East / Gulf Region.

Job title: Market Manager Middle East / Gulf Region
This position will report to the Vice President International based in the International Office in The Netherlands. UpToDate headquarters are located in Boston, USA.

Job description:
- Using your expertise in healthcare/hospital sales, you will be responsible for selling UpToDates software program to and managing their larger institutional accounts in the (assigned part of the) Middle East / Gulf Region market, including hospitals, medical schools, and large physician practices. Account sizes range from subscriptions of US$ 5,000 to US$ 100,000 per year each. Besides developing and growing the enterprise market, you also will be responsible for coordinating the individual sales to physicians in the region with their Direct Marketing Group based in the USA.

- Your primary focus will be to develop the academic market, targeting major medical schools and their teaching hospitals. You will need to manage all stages of this relationship sales effort, starting from targeting the accounts plus making the initial contact to closing the sale. Next you will also be implementing the service and increasing the usage of UpToDate. Administering the renewals belongs to your duties as well.

- You will be using their US based infrastructure and systems over the web. You must be comfortable establishing contact and selling to all levels in the organization including physicians, medical librarians, and, most importantly, top management within hospitals and healthcare systems. You need to be able to work independently and organize your duties to pro-actively work down the list of all major teaching hospitals, as well as maximize usage within existing accounts.

- In addition, you will be required to attend local medical conferences (and at times international events), at which they demonstrate the program to potential customers, both institutional and individual. This occasionally requires weekend travel and time away from home.
In summary, you will be responsible for developing the Middle East / Gulf Region market.

Requirements:
- This requires a dedicated 'sales' effort and establishing excellent customer contacts through personal visits, telephone calls and written correspondence.

- UpToDate is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual with prior experience in sales / marketing to hospitals and physicians (pharmaceuticals, diagnostics or medical equipment industry), excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and good working knowledge of English.

- The position will be based either in one of the countries in the Gulf Region or in Saudi Arabia or in one of the other Middle East countries. This will depend on the country of residence of the candidate. From his home base the Market Manager will handle the whole designated region. This requires regional / international travel.

- UpToDate is looking for a national of one of the Middle East countries or an international person with relevant experience in the region. Good working knowledge of both Arabic and English is required.
