INTRODUCTION

The Center for Environmental and Water Solutions (CEWS) at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University
(PMU) invites applications for Postdoctoral Researcher positions in environmental engineering, water
resources, climate resilience, and digital water and environmental systems. CEWS is a newly
established, multidisciplinary research center designed to position PMU as a Saudi-led originator of
high-impact environmental and water solutions, aligned with Saudi Vision 2030. The postdoctoral
researchers will play a central role in building PMU’s applied research capacity, leading PMU-authored
outputs, and delivering decision-ready solutions for industry and government partners particularly in
the Eastern Province and beyond.
The Center's research is organized into three flagship programs:
1. Water Security & Innovation
2. Climate Resilience & Environmental Protection
3. Pollution Control & Circular Economy
Postdoctoral researchers will contribute to one or more of these programs, working under the guidance
of the respective Program Leads.
Appointments are initially for one year, renewable based on performance and funding availability.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Postdoctoral Researcher at the CEWS will play a key role in advancing interdisciplinary, applied
research addressing regional and industrial challenges related to water security, environmental
protection, climate resilience, pollution control, and circular economy. The position involves close
collaboration with CEWS Program Leads and core faculty to design and implement industry-relevant
research projects, contribute to high-impact PMU-led publications and funded research, support student
training, and actively engage with industry and government stakeholders. The Postdoctoral Researcher
is expected to strengthen CEWS’s research capacity, innovation output, and regional impact, in
alignment with PMU’s strategic goals, Saudi Vision 2030.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED)
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Water Resources Engineering,
Chemical Engineering, Climate Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Doctoral research with strong relevance to water systems, environmental protection, pollution
control, circular economy, or climate resilience.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including experience with data analysis, modeling, or
digital tools relevant to environmental or water systems.
  • Proven record of peer-reviewed journal publications in reputable international journals.
Research Expertise (One or More Areas Required)
  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) for hydro-environmental
systems, cost–benefit analysis and water–energy nexus applications
  • Smart water management, desalination, wastewater reuse, or industrial water systems
  • Environmental pollution control, emission reduction, or waste valorization
  • Climate resilience, coastal protection, urban heat mitigation, or sustainable infrastructure
  • Digital environmental monitoring, remote sensing, Geo-AI, or decision-support systems

Desirable Experience
  • Experience in LCA, TEA, GIS, remote sensing, or data-driven decision support for
environmental or water challenges.
  • Experience in grant proposal writing, project reporting, and coordination of funded research.
  • Ability to supervise or co-supervise graduate and undergraduate research students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Conduct high-quality postdoctoral research aligned with the core thematic areas of CEWS,
including:
  • Smart water management and industrial water systems
  • Desalination efficiency and wastewater reuse
  • Climate resilience and sustainable infrastructure
  • Pollution control, waste valorization, and circular economy
  • Support and coordinate research activities across the three CEWS flagship programs, ensuring
integration of water, environmental, and sustainability perspectives.
  • Apply advanced analytical and digital tools, including LCA, TEA, AI/ML, GIS, remote
sensing, numerical modeling, and decision-support systems, where relevant to project
objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of industry-relevant solutions addressing regional challenges
such as:
  • Industrial water efficiency and reuse
  • Desalination optimization
  • Climate resilience and coastal protection
  • Emission reduction
  • Waste-to-resource conversion and circular systems
  • Assist in research grant proposal preparation, project documentation, progress reporting, and
compliance with funding agency requirements.
  • Support industry engagement, consultancy, and collaborative projects, including data analysis,
feasibility studies, and technical assessments.
  • Mentor and support graduate and undergraduate students involved in CEWS research projects.
  • Participate in organizing workshops, seminars, executive training programs, and outreach
activities of the Center.
  • Contribute to the establishment, operation, and maintenance of research infrastructure,
laboratories, and data repositories within CEWS.
  • Perform other research-related duties assigned by the Center Head or Program Leads, in line
with CEWS objectives.

The Program and National Test Center Coordinator serves as the on-site University of Maryland Global Campus representative responsible for providing academic, administrative and testing support services, community outreach, and customer relations management. The Program and National Test Center Coordinator is a front-line staff member that provides the best possible services to current and prospective students and engages as a team member. This position reports directly to the Site Lead (SL), and if no Site Lead is assigned to the site, to the Assistant Director (AD). The Program and National Test Center Coordinator must work effectively with the AD and the Regional Director (RD), local Program Coordinators and staff, education center personnel, faculty, administrative staff , and the military community at large. There will at times be site specific duties that differ from location to location. Occasional evening/weekend hours; travel may be required.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide students with superior customer service as an advocate and advisor throughout the academic cycle in a fast-paced environment, using various communication channels, to include in-person visits, telephone, e-mail, and videoconferencing.

  • Promote and support localized UMGC services to include hybrid classes, testing services, and university sponsored events as assigned at site(s).

  • Provide operational and administrative duties as needed to ensure offices and test centers (if applicable) are properly maintained by test agency standards.

  • Maintain and expand knowledge and proficiency with UMGC systems to include all customer relationship management (CRM) databases to include Salesforce, Peoplesoft, and other university sponsored systems.

  • Document all student contact through UMGC's Customer Relations Management System and schedule appropriate follow-up activities

  • Provide daily customer service and communicate with prospective and current students in a fast-paced, in person environment and also, through phone, email, CRM, and video communications

  • Maintain a positive relationship with the Education Services Officer (ESO), Specialists/Counselors, military partners, and equivalents. Provide periodic briefings as allowed to update military representatives on UMGC programs of interest.

  • Organize and participate in local outreach activities to include, Education Fairs, Open Houses, Semester Start-ups, Student Appreciation Days, Local Graduations and other events as needed, professionally representing UMGC

  • Track and analyze class enrollments and student interest, as well as local degree progression, to provide input on scheduling; ensure classrooms are provided with adequate space and needed technology for class instruction; be present at the first class session to provide assistance to instructors and students; and assist faculty in obtaining base access to attend class on their assigned installation

  • Provide assistance with processing students' military documentation (i.e. Tuition Assistance forms, orders, etc.)

  • Distribute marketing, advertising, and mass media materials at assigned locations when permissible

  • Execute site specific outreach plans and participate in outreach events to support university goals towards recruitment and retention

  • Provide National Test Center testing services on a basis that meets community demand while balancing other, outlined duties and maintain NTC trainings/certifications as required

  • Participate in UMGC staff meetings, professional development activities and training sessions as required

  • Track and compile monthly statistics and provide reports as needed

  • Maintain appropriate communication with immediate supervisor and other UMGC staff to ensure timely resolution of student issues/escalations

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign degree equivalent

The Vice President for Academic Affairs will serve as a senior member of the Division of Academic Affairs team; the VPAA provides direction to and managerial oversight of a variety of initiatives designed to positively impact student success, retention, and timely graduation. He/she will supervise all activities, programs, and services related to academic advising and academic support, including academic remedial and skill-building programs and testing. The VPAA will serve as conduct officer for all cases involving violations of academic policies.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Serve as the conduct officer in all cases involving an alleged violation of academic policies, including those in the Student Code of Conduct and the Academic Honesty Policy.
  • Provide leadership in the planning and development of operations processes as well as the evaluation for the University academic development programs.
  • Lead initiatives with University departments, to enhance academic readiness for all students.
  • In collaboration with Student Life, implement academic intervention programs designed to identify and enhance the chances of success of students at risk.
  • Develop and administer related program budgets; including forecasting funds required for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor division expenditures.
  • Provide training and development initiatives for staff thus ensuring each member's effective contributions to student success.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and detailed records and develop/maintain reports as required or assigned for retention purposes.
  • Coordinate, implement, and evaluate transition programs for new, transfer, and graduate students.
  • Develop and maintain policy and procedure manuals related to unit programs and services.
  • Assist in the identification, implementation, and evaluation of technology programs intended to enhance the operations of departments.
  • Keep abreast of developments in higher education fields as related to assigned functions.


Experience and Education:


  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution, PhD strongly preferred.
  • Significant work experience in the Academic Affairs profession, at least 5 years.
  • Three to five years of experience supervising professional-level staff.
  • Experience with program development and assessment.
  • Experience with designing academic systems and programs that support student learning, persistence, and retention.
