English and Scientific Methods Instructor

The English & Scientific Methods Department provides high quality education that meets the needs of our students and their employers in Egypt, in the region and internationally. It enables GUC students to build their capabilities, skills and knowledge so as to enhance their opportunities in order to take full advantage of life–long learning.
Unlike any English, critical thinking, writing, or freshman qualifying program in any other university, the English & Scientific Method department at the GUC prepares our undergraduate for:
Postgraduate studies preparation: We do not only equip our undergraduates with the Academic skills required for writing a documented paper; but we also equip them with research skills that other universities would offer at a postgraduate level (e.g. understanding research methodology, understanding different types of research, and conducting a review of the literature as a first step towards conducting empirical research)
Undertaking job related tasks preparation: We equip our students with a spectrum of market-oriented soft skills such as presentation skills, communication skills, working in teams both as a team member and as a team leader, handling group discussions, working under pressure, meeting deadlines, report writing, multi-cultural awareness.

The GUC (Cairo Campus) invites highly able and motivated applicants for the following vacancy in the Graphic and Media Design Department. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will engage in teaching, research, supervision and administrative duties. She/he will establish and lead a research group in the field of Graphic and Media Design, actively promote graduate and undergraduate research, and attract third-party funded projects in any chosen areas of interest in Design. Teaching covers design, technological and methodological content for the development and implementation of products, processes and services in the field of digital media. The professor should oversee and develop the practice of interactive media-based systems in the degree programs Graphic Design und Media Design. The position includes the establishment of specific Interactive Design Labs as well the engagement in academic collaboration with partner universities.

Experience/skills:
  • Doctorate/PhD or equivalent qualification or evidence of conducted research

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The teaching load is eight courses per year (4/4 load) at the undergraduate level. Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence in student-centered teaching and have experience in promoting active learning using high-impact educational practices. Candidates must be prepared to teach academic writing classes to both native and non-native speakers of English. Service expectations include participating in school and university committees and contributing to the discipline through involvement with professional associations. A balance between high-quality instruction and service will be required for continued professional advancement.

Minimum Qualifications: an earned master’s degree in English or closely related field and relevant tertiary teaching experience, which demonstrates use of high-impact educational practices. Candidates should have a minimum of three years’ experience teaching composition or academic writing at the university level. Experience teaching first-year academic writing at a US university or North American-style university/college in an international context is an advantage.

You are invited to apply for a visiting faculty position in a new undergraduate program, a B.A. in Business, Organizations and Society. The program is interdisciplinary and focuses on the role and impact of business within society. Established on principles of the liberal arts, the program integrates business theory and application, and prepares students to take on roles in businesses and effectively and holistically examine the implications of business decisions for society from multiple perspectives (i.e., social, political, economic, and cultural).

The program seeks applicants whose research and teaching are rooted in Management, Entrepreneurship, Business Ethics Social Impact, or a related area. Applicants should demonstrate an outstanding track record for their career stage, in both research and teaching.
