The Back-up Program Coordinator (PC) reports to and works with the Assistant Director (AD) in the administration of UMGC Europe programs. It is the job of the Back-up PC to ensure that quality services are provided to all current and prospective students and to be responsive to students and student issues. The Back-up PC must work effectively with the AD, local military education coordinators and staff, education center personnel, faculty, administrative staff in the military community at large.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and administrative support services to prospects and students, and ensure quality assurance standards are met by being available, knowledgeable, courteous and responsive

  • Document all student contact through UMGC's Customer Relations Management System and schedule appropriate follow-up activities

  • Provide and maintain open and positive communications with host military Education Services Officer (or equivalent) and respective Education Center staff

  • Organize and participate in local Education Fairs, Open Houses, Semester Start-Ups, Student Appreciation Days, Local Graduations and other events as needed, professionally representing UMGC

  • Track and analyze class enrollments and student interest, as well as local degree progression, to provide input on scheduling; ensure classrooms are provided with adequate space and needed technology for class instruction; be present at the first class session to provide assistance to instructors and students; and assist faculty in obtaining base access to attend class on their assigned installation

  • Provide assistance with processing students' military documentation( i.e. Tuition Assistance vouchers, ID cards, orders, etc.)

  • Distribute marketing, advertising, and mass media materials at assigned locations when permissible

  • Assist with base access as needed.

  • May provide facility support to include: opening and closing UMGC Europe computer lab, building entrances, windows and classrooms; ensure that building rules are adhered to by UMGC Europe students, that all UMGC Europe labs/rooms are clean and presentable, and that all supplies are readily available.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • High school diploma/GED

  • Applicants must have a background in customer service and should be able to work in a fast-paced and complex environment with accurate attention to detail.

  • Applicants must possess basic office management and clerical skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, and are expected to have good interpersonal skills.

  • Applicants with a U.S. valid driver's license preferred.

  • Successful applicants must be able to pass background check and currently have and are able to maintain their own logistical support.

Description

The Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work on membrane surface patterning for water treatment applications, under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering.

The successful applicant will lead an innovative project focused on the development of surface-patterned membranes with tailored surface features designed to enhance the performance of microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), membrane distillation (MD), and nanofiltration (NF) processes. The role involves advanced membrane fabrication, including 3D printing and a range of membrane characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS, TGA, contact angle measurement, CFP, 3D scanning, BET, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, among others. Lab-scale testing will be performed to establish critical relationships between fabrication methods, structure, properties, and membrane performance, to improve desalination and water treatment applications. Prior experience in surface patterning techniques, such as phase separation micro/macro molding or direct patterning, and proficiency in 3D printing methods including Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and PolyJet 3D printing, is highly desirable. Knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software for model preparation for 3D printing is also highly recommended. The candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of PhD-level scientists, engineers, graduate students, and undergraduates.

The successful applicant will oversee projects, build extensive technical expertise, and develop adaptable solutions. He/she will contribute to the development of novel concepts and proposal writing, while efficiently and creatively addressing complex challenges. Responsibilities will include writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents, and presenting results at conferences. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated knowledge of membrane fabrication and surface patterning, 3D printing, membrane characterization, and separation processes. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and exceptional verbal and written communication abilities are essential. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Applicants must have a PhD in materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, or related field. Excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project (in particular membrane fabrication and surface patterning as well as membrane characterization) are required. Candidates with a demonstrated history of peer-reviewed publications in a related area, along with prior expertise in materials science and analytical chemistry will be preferred.

This position will begin in January 2025 as an eight-month contract ending August 31, 2025, renewable depending on performance. The research lab of Dr. Sarah Nadi, in the Division of Science (Computer Science Program) at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to hire a Research Assistant/Associate (RA) to work on software engineering research, to be involved in the development of open-source tools and resources, and to work on publications related to their research.
Dr. Nadi’s research focuses on the design and development of automated tools that improve software developers’ productivity. The research involves use of methods from areas such as mining software repositories, program analysis, empirical software engineering, and machine learning (e.g., using LLMs for software engineering tasks). Examples of current research projects include ensuring the correct usage of software libraries (e.g., API misuse detection and prevention) and support for library migration. Candidates must hold (or be close to completing) a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. The Data Science and AI laboratory in the Science Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research associate to work on human-bot cooperation.

The successful applicant will work with the lab director, Prof. Talal Rahwan, on projects that examine human-bot interactions. In this context, some of the research questions that excite us as a group include topics in: (i) ethics of AI and automation; (ii) social media analysis (iii) collaboration and team work, (iv) online controlled experiments. The candidate would focus on the area of AI ethics, using behavioral experiments, typically conducted online, and game theoretical models of such interactions. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students.

Applicants must have a PhD in Sociology, Economics, Physics, Psychology, or Computer Science. The position requires experience with at least one of the following: running behavioral experiments in the lab or online, developing the interface for such experiments or the mastery of currently existing experimental tools, as well as game-theoretic modeling on decision making. Relevant skills include statistical analysis, data management and collection, causal inference, visualizations, game theory, and online tool development. Excellent communication skills in English, ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and scientific creativity are essential, as the research projects conducted by Professor Rahwan are inherently collaborative and involve scientists with diverse backgrounds.

The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, UAE is inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate position in the areas of Protein Biochemistry and Enzymology. The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Wael Rabeh (https://www.rabehlab.com/) on the study of enzymes’ structures and functions in the area of cancer metabolism and viral infectious diseases. Applicants must have a strong background in protein biochemistry including experience in protein expression and purification. The lab is well equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for spectroscopy, thermodynamic and kinetic characterization of proteins’ thermal and chemical unfolding, and mass-spectroscopy for studying protein dynamics.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related field of study. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. Experience in mass spectroscopy or enzymology is desirable. Priority given to candidates with a background in the following areas of expertise:

Protein expression and purification (essential): The candidate must have prior hands-on experience in protein expression in E. coli or other cell lines and purification using affinity and size exclusion chromatography. Experience using FPLC in protein purification is a plus.

Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:

  • Enzymology: mechanistic characterization of enzymes using initial velocity and enzyme inhibition kinetics.
  • Hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX) mass spectrometry (MS) application in the study of enzyme dynamics and protein structural characterization.
  • Spectroscopy including UV-Vis, fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy.
  • Calorimetry including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).

The successful applicant will work on four main areas leading to the success of this fascinating project: (i) to design and develop chemical and ion-exchange processes for energy and cost-efficient recovery of materials from desalination waste, (ii) to utilize the materials recovered from desalination waste as innovative building materials with abilities to self-clean, self-sense, and self-heal, (iii) to study the carbonation mechanisms in the construction materials at the nanoscale using in-situ characterization methods, and (iv) to quantify the environmental impact of recovered materials using life cycle analysis and their economic evaluation using life-cycle cost analysis. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and graduate and undergraduate students.

Applicants must have experience in the use of chemical and ion-exchange processes for the recovery of minerals from desalination brine and performance assessment of construction materials. Excellent experimental skills relevant to the project (in particular, synthesis of inorganic materials using chemical methods and their catalytic and sensing applications, conducting life cycle analysis, and in-situ characterization techniques) are favored. The Art History Program at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Qatar (VCUArts Qatar) is establishing a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions in the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025. Position Responsibilities:

Applicants should hold a graduate degree in art history or a closely related discipline for teaching first-year courses, and a doctoral degree in Art History or a closely related discipline for teaching upper-division courses. Successful candidates should be able to teach the global survey of art (ARTH103 and ARTH104), and other courses in their area of specialization as pertinent to their qualifications. The first-year courses (ARTH103 and ARTH104) provide students with a foundation in the visual arts of different cultures from the Prehistoric period through the contemporary. Students will learn to identify and analyze major works of art, periods, and artists; discuss historical, religious, economic, and political factors affecting art; demonstrate how art reflects critical issues, values, ideas, and institutions of societies; recognize techniques, media, and principles of design; use and define pertinent vocabulary related to art history; compare and contrast works of art from different cultures; and communicate informed interpretations through effective writing. The courses serve as an entry point to the Art History major or minor.
